I've always thought that xrays and ultrasounds on a pregnant dog were completely unnecessary and a waste of money. But then I was told such methods could be used to assure the momma did not retain a puppy and to be sure a puppy wasn’t missed if a c-section was necessary. So, to protect Cootie, I did both with this litter. Plus I just wanted to know!
An ultrasound at 30 days revealed at least 4 puppies. I was told it was too easy to count the same puppy twice, so they said they could only be sure of "at least 4". At 8 weeks pregnant, we did an xray and I was told then to expect 5 babies.
After the xray, several people told me that one or more puppies could manage to hide from the xray. I didn't think that was posible and thus did not believe them! However, come delivery day, we were indeed surprised by the arrival of puppy number 6, right on the heels of puppy number five. Number 5 is Houdini, "Omegamtns The Great Escape", did he manage to escape the xray? Or was it number 6, Shocker, "Omegamtns Surprise Ending".

I can't keep them both or I would. So Houdini is looking for his forever home.
Yes he was an escape artist. As a little guy he would squeeze between the rails of the deck and get in the yard to play. He is the most curious, the thinker, the explorer. He will come when called but prefers to do his thing. When chasing the bag for lure course practice, he tries to figure out where it will go. He is energetic and fun loving.

Shocker will stay with us and begin his show career soon. He wants attention, is very focused and serious. He will explore, especially with his brother, but prefers to stay close and get my attention. He is usually the first to the bag when "lure course" training because he doesn't over think it like Houdini.
